Auto electrics fault.

Started by: admin (1654)

Only just noticed that when I turn on the car lights there is no power to the Cig Lighter? I don't know if it has always been like this?? I've only noticed it recently because my Sat Nav wasn't charging up. Checked the fuses and they appear to be OK. Anyone any suggestions as to the problem??? Maybe it's meant to be like this???

I had this problem with my last car a VW Golf and the fuse box for this was behind the glove box which had to be removed to get to the fuses. Booked into the garage no way was I tackling that

Peter the fuse box is under the bonnet I checked the fuses I thought could be the problem and they were O.K. However the handbook is a bit vague when showing which fuse corresponds to what..???

Admin google your problem with the make /year of your car and don't be surprised how many more fuses there are which are not in the handbook. The main fuses on the VW where under the bonnet also but auxiliary fuses elsewhere

I have driven a car (Peugeot) which had three fuse boxes, two under the bonnet, and one behind the glove box.

Peter If it was the fuse, then how come there is power to the lighter when the lights are off? Been having a look on Google and it appears that there is another fuse box behind the dash .. But I don't want to remove half the dash, as knowing me, I'll never get it back or break something<g>

If there is power to the lighter when the lights are off, then I don't think it is the fuse, maybe a bad earth somewhere, causing a lack of power, and auto electrician stuff, however what I would try, because it is simple, is to disconnect the battery, and clean and grease the terminals, and that also resets the car electronics, that might help
